About Course

Children’s Classics for 11+/ISEB

This course is designed to develop strong reading, thinking, and language skills through carefully selected classic literature.

Students will read structured extracts from well-known texts and practise a wide range of 11+/ISEB-style questions, including:

  • Comprehension (with full-sentence answers)
  • Vocabulary in context
  • Grammar and punctuation
  • Text-based evidence
  • Analytical and higher-order thinking

The focus is not only on answering questions, but on learning the correct method of thinking:

  • Reading with attention
  • Understanding meaning in context
  • Supporting answers with evidence
  • Writing clearly and accurately

Each lesson encourages students to:

Course Content

Topic 1: Animal Farm – By George Orwell
Students will study Animal Farm by George Orwell, beginning with Chapter One. Through guided exercises, students will: Understand characters, setting, and key ideas Learn how to extract meaning from descriptive language Identify important vocabulary in context Practise answering questions using evidence from the text Special focus is given to: Clear comprehension of events Understanding character behaviour and intentions Developing structured, full-sentence answers Recognising deeper ideas such as fairness, leadership, and inequality By working through these exercises, students will improve both: Accuracy in English Depth of thinking, which is essential for 11+ success
